| City man charged with DUIDANBURY -- A 21-year-old city man was arrested and charged with driving while under the influence early Saturday after being stopped on North Street for speeding, police said.Christopher Page, of Pembroke Road, was also charged with traveling unreasonably fast and making an unsafe movement, police said.He was released on $500 bond and is scheduled to appear in state Superior Court in Danbury on May 25. |

| New Fairfield voters approve budgetsVoters on Saturday gave a decisive thumbs up to the combined $50 million municipal and education budgets for fiscal 2012-13, and approved by a wide margin the first phase of renovations for the town library.The Board of Finance on Wednesday is expected to set the tax rate at 24.46 mills, an increase of 0.71 mills, or 2.96 percent, over the 23.95 mills residents are currently paying.Residents voted to approve the $11 million town budget, which includes the use of nearly $1.44 million from the capital and non-recurring budget and from user fees, by a tally of 1,024 in favor to 403 opposed, and the $39.2 million education plan by a vote of 918-507. |
